Dear Paws to Talk,
I like to bark. I bark when someone is near my house. I bark for toys and food. I even bark when my humans are barking just to be a part of the conversation.
I noticed lately that my humans are ignoring me when I bark. I thought they liked my bark. I am very articulate. Is time for me to stop barking?
-Tabitha the German Shepherd
Howl Tabitha,
I embrace barking and think it is good you are so vocal. We have to communicate with our humans or how else will they know what we want.
DiDi has become the designated barker between us. If she does get the message across then I chime in. There are times in life when you have to take matters into your own paws.
As important as it is to bark, your humans are ignoring you because they are sick of the noise (This is why DiDi does most of my barking). So you want to be included? This may be shocking news but cut back on the barking. Don’t stop but just tone it down. Save your barks for when they will count the most.
You’re humans will become less annoyed and I am sure things will return to normal. Sometimes it is better to let the sound of woof sink in with a bit of silence.
Woof,
Bella

Bella, your advise to Tabitha was great. Bark when it counts (to announce the arrival of guests, strangers or a break in). That is when you will be rewarded with heaps of attention! 🙂
Rayya,
Thanks for the comment! I think Tabitha has the hang of it now. Have a good day!
Bella

Sound advice! Keep it coming.
Thanks for reading!
Firstly, congratulations on receiving the Versatile Blogger Award – well deserved! Your advice to Tabitha is very helpful Bella. A while ago I wrote about barking in my series of tips for dogs. Tabitha might find some of the tips useful:
Kind of the whole boy who cried wolf problem. Or the dog who cried wolf. Or, I guess the dog who cried human. You know what I mean, right?
We know what you mean 🙂 Thanks for the comment.
hilarious!
Thanks Darla 🙂
That’s what I say too. I let DeDe do the barking. It’s a tag team effort. If her bark can’t scare ya, then the sight of me probably will.
Working as a team is always a good idea. Rumpy you look more cute than scary to us 🙂
